since we've abandoned the topic for the week. I thought I'd mention what I was investigating for booting the linux system faster. try initng. it's and under development. progect aimed at replacing the current init. <a href="http://initng.thinktux.net/wiki/Documents_Overview">
http://initng.thinktux.net/wiki/Documents_Overview</a> I've tried it briefly and I can say it boots my system like 10 times faster but I know it's currently not loading everything I normaly do because I haven't had time to configure it. it CAN be installed with what is it sysvinit. but they both can't be used at the same time. so if you want to try it, it probably won't harm your system. just remember to add another grub (or lilo) option for it as opposed to replacing the existing.
