Hi All,

Hopefully in less than 2 months I can finally attend a GLUG meeting in person as my 20 years are up in the USMC and I am so happy to be going home.

My question for the night is how do you network a mixed OS environment for the Windows user?

My roommate here in GA (originally from the west coast of Michigan) has a mixture of Ubuntu with different releases, (to include one laptop with the Beta 8.04) and even more Windows desktops, pretty much a total of 8 computers (he used to be a windoze guy). I have managed to see the network windows shared drive with smb4k with read and write permissions even though I am running a pretty much stock ubuntu 7.10 installation on my laptop. Nothing in the stock Ubuntu distro made it easy for a windows user to network a mixed system. I have been able to read and write to the one shared folder on the windows shared drive but we would rather have his ubuntu powered Dell NSeries desktop hold all of the media due to a large 750G hard drive.

What is really cool is that he just found out how great is is to virtualize windows on a Linux box!

Does anyone have a tutorial? I have searched the ubuntu forums and everything I have tried has not worked, any help would be truly appreciated just because he is such a newbee and I can't remember myself! I can see already my skills are a little rusty!
