<DIV>I recently tried to work my way out of a serious software problem </DIV>
<DIV>with the recovery console on my Windows XP Pro installation</DIV>
<DIV>CD. Unfortunately, the CD did not recognize my administrator's</DIV>
<DIV>password. For a long dark while it looked as if I was up against</DIV>
<DIV>the possibility of fresh install of my operating system. And
then</DIV>
<DIV>a time consuming and laborious re-install of all my software </DIV>
<DIV>and program files.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>On a hunch I inserted my Windows XP Pro service pack 2 recovery</DIV>
<DIV>disc into my DVD drive. It Worked! Without any need for a password </DIV>
<DIV>I made my way to a command prompt, ran check disc, and was </DIV>
<DIV>soon back up and running!</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>The issue here- if you bought into Windows XP Pro before service
pack</DIV>
<DIV>two and you have service pack two or three installed on your</DIV>
<DIV>machine. Your machine thinks it has a completely different operating</DIV>
<DIV>system from Windows XP Pro, service pack zero. So, it will not</DIV>
<DIV>recognize the OEM CD (service pack zero). Thus you need a
recovery</DIV>
<DIV>disc with Windows XP Pro service pack two installed to get back to</DIV>
<DIV>work. </DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>Good thing I bought a new lap top this year.</DIV>
