I'd say update your drivers. If you lookup the IEEE spec for Reason 4 it is timeout due to inactivity. Reason 3 is deciding to disconnect yourself. If you're actively using the network while it happens, it's probably a driver issue.
Thanks, Bill (and Karl), but that isn't the problem. Unlike CADL, the Delta Township Library is fast and wide-open. I've never had to click on an agreement page there. That, plus the fact that it's closer to me and close to where I shop and bank, is why I go there.

I should have mentioned in my reply to Karl's suggestion was that I don't know how well the PIII/128MB RAM laptop I'm using would handle "automated" wireless connection agents. I'd rather not bog it down any further, though.

The problem I've had the last two visits there didn't occur before. Can anyone tell if I need to do something to fix it? I see the message about IPv6, but as far as I know, I'm not using it. I'd have to check my configuration for a more definite answer, which I can do at tonight's meeting. It's running Arch Linux, which eschews GUI administration tools, so please don't suggest I run YAST or yum or any Ubuntu network configuration tools. The problem has occurred infrequently at our meetings, as well, but that might be their network. It's also possible that something I upgraded caused the problem, as Arch follows a "rolling release" model, so upgrades to individual programs and kernels come out when they're ready.
The last couple of times I've been there, everything goes fine for a while and then I can't connect to websites.
I use neither. Just ifconfig, iwconfig, and dhcpcd.
Is this possibly happening after some time-limit enforced by the library? That is, do you have to click some sort of "I Agree" page to get wireless access initially?

If so, try this the next time, which always works for me (who, like you, runs 'dhcpcd' manually for wireless access):

- killall dhcpcd
- dhcpcd wlan0
- Try to visit some web page, which should take you to the "I Agree" page.
- Continue surfing! :^)
