I got an invite from <a href="http://academia.edu">academia.edu</a> a year or more back. It does seem like a legit site. I categorized it the same box as linkedin for my purposes. That is, I'm not on either.<br><br> --Brent<br>

Did anyone else get a message like this? I suspect our mailing list has been harvested for some kind of phishing attempt or something, since Open Source Initiatives is part of the LONG name of his "department", even though he is an "independent researcher". The website appears to be legitimate, and he has over twenty followers, but I don't recall any Bob Brewer.<br>

I get this kind of crap several times a day. He's probably an actual dude, trying to raise money for something. I've even gotten this kind of stuff from senators before (not Michigan senators), among others.<div>
