I figured the drive was probably failing.<div><br></div><div>Did some Google research and found that it likely has bad sector(s) that are giving read errors.</div><div><br></div><div>Usually, from what I read, the disk will try to reallocate the data from a questionable sector to another</div>
<div>area on the drive. But when the drive was booting, the disk attempted and failed to do that.</div><div><br></div><div>I used an option from hdparm to force reallocation of that sector. </div><div><br></div><div>Fortunately, there was little data on the drive to begin with. So nothing lost...</div>
