I was in high school at the time and thought it was awesome that I could use a computer without paying for an OS license. Plus, I had read about the cool effects people were doing with Beryl and wanted to show off my cubed desktop. (I still think that's rad!)</div>
<div><br></div><div>And I still enjoy learning new stuff and feeling powerful when I'm able to make something from nothing (or no cost except time). Over time though, I started using Linux for more practical reasons and got tired of tweaking unstable compositing effects for hours. :-)<br>
