ABSTRACT:
Rapid changes in economic growth nowadays are creating higher demands for
employability skills in the workforce. Labor markets are becoming more
competitive and depends on the quality of knowledge and skills as the
globalization come across in all industries, including engineering fields.
Researchers in Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia have realized that these
employability skills must be enhanced during teaching and learning process,
and improve the skills needed for life in the workforce, so that the
students are well prepared to face the global challenges. Therefore, in
2009, the Centre for Engineering Education Research was established and was
headed by Prof. Dr. Azami Zaharim. The purpose of establishing the center is
to generate specialized knowledge and skilled human resource in the field of
engineering education. Prior to the formation of the Centre, the Engineering
Education Research Group (EERG) was initially established in January 2003.
The idea of establishing EERG in the early 2003 came from the previous dean
of the Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment (FKAB), Prof. Dato' Ir.
Dr. Hassan Basri. Currently, we are stressing on action research and STEM
education research which focused on the Future of Engineering Education,
Improvement in Teaching and Learning, Student Mobility and Credit Transfer,
and Marketability of Engineering Graduates. Among of STEM research projects
that have conducted are Enhancing Student`s Learning in Engineering
Mathematics Through Technological Software, Adaptation the Module of Chem E
Car Towards Improving STEM Education at School Level & Integration STEM
Education with Islamic Value System in Higher Education.
