FOS: Fw: Sociolinguistics lab members and MSULC/GLEEFUL

Dear FOS and Socio Lab,

FYI these two upcoming MSU undergraduate linguistics conferences. MSULC is a great place to bring a UURAF poster for some really informal feedback. All abstracts are accepted, and the remit is broad -- students from English, Education, Communications Sciences, language programs and many others take part. The keynote speaker is always an alum of the BA Linguistics program.

GLEEFUL is a competitive conference; abstracts are blind-reviewed. However, attendance is free and there will be two workshops on variation this year, as well as a keynote from Jeff Lidz. I very strongly enourage you and/or your students to come!

Please feel free to circulate these details widely.

Suzanne

Good evening, Suzanne,

As you are aware, qUALMS is hosting our 10th annual MSULC and 9th annual GLEEFUL conferences this year, which will be held on April 12–14 this year and are open for all MSU undergraduates to submit abstracts.

I'm e-mailing tonight to let you know that although the deadline listed for GLEEFUL is listed as February 25th, we are still accepting submissions for at least the next week if there are any undergraduates in the sociolinguistics lab who are working on original research and would like to present in April at either conference. The deadline for MSULC is still March 25.

This year the two Sunday workshops at GLEEFUL will both be especially relevant to undergraduates interested in sociolinguistics. One will be led by MSU professor Dr. Silvina Bongiovanni on the phonetics of phonological variation, and the other will be held by Dr. Christina Tortora from CUNY on corpus building and variability. We encourage students to take advantage of the conference/workshops even if they do not submit an abstract.

I have attached the calls for papers in case you haven't already been sent them.
