FOS: Access to the Corpus of Contemporary American English

That's good news! It will help our students in FLT 845 also. They mostly work with other languages, but the COCA provides common ground.

If you have people working with other languages or who want more input on application to language teaching, I updated my page on Corpus Tools for Language Teachers recently. There is a guide structured around what you want the corpus tool to do for you and a list of resources for other languages. Would be glad for suggested additions.

Corpus Analysis for FLTs - Dr. Amanda Lanier - Domain (msu.domains)<http://alanier.msu.domains/instructional-technology/corpus-analysis-for-flts/>

FYI, Bruna Sommer-Farias is teaching our FLT 845 Language Concepts course (with a big corpus component) and Fred Poole is teaching our FLT 841 Sociolinguistics & Spoken Language course this fall.

Best,
Amanda

Socio Lab and Friends of Sociolinguistics,

Note this new corpus acquisition by the MSU Libraries, in connection with the MSU Second Language Studies Corpus Lab<https://corpus.cal.msu.edu/>, directed by Sandra Deshors and Charlene Polio. If you're not already familiar with COCA, this is a good time to explore its potential for both teaching and research.

Suzanne

Subject: [lin-grad] access to the Corpus of Contemporary American English

Dear Students,

We were able to secure free access to the Corpus of Contemporary American English (COCA) and all its associated corpora through the quick work of the MSU library staff. You should be to go in and create an account for free or use this link: https://www-english-corpora-org.proxy1.cl.msu.edu/. Let me know if you would like access and have any trouble creating an account.
