The Altec-Lansing systems with two satellites and a subwoofer are
pretty decent; we have an ACS28 and an ACS45 of this type that
work pretty well.

If monitor shielding isn't an issue then I recommending just
using regular speakers from a stereo, routed through an amp.
Then again I don't play games much at all and don't like loud
music, so I don't care about bass.  YMMV but I'm very happy with
my 2-way Yamaha shelf speakers.

If you really want to find the "best", which is definitely a
personal, subjective call, go to Best Buy and listen to all of
their speakers.  Take a CD of music that you like and try to talk
one of the salescritters into playing it for you on them, and
judge for yourself.
