which 601 box? if its a nubus based one(61xx,71xx,81xx) I think your only
option is mklinux, the pci based boxes (72xx,7500,7600,85xx,95xx) all have
good support. I might be wrong on the nubus machines, but they had a wacky
memory management system because it was really a 68k board with a ppc
processor on it. 

http://www.linuxppc.org/hardware/ has the actual list to see what machines
are supported. 

mklinux is at www.mklinux.org 

Mklinux isnt _really_ linux because its running on top of the mach kernel,
but its fairly easy to get up and running.
