crypt command?

Hmmmm.... just curious, my Mandrake box has a shell script
called "cryptdir" which just does a "exec crypt ...", but
neither my Mandrake box or my Debian box has a crypt command.
I can't find it doing a "dpkg -S crypt".  Is this command 
too weak nowadays and was dropped from distros?  Or is this
just rolled into libcrypt?
