Hylafax error

I have setup a linux firewall with virtual IP on the Lan side and a real IP on
the Wan side.  Set up Hylafax with the appropriate permissions.  I am running
the Hylafax client on a PC on the Lan side.  When I attempt to send a fax using
the client....I get a strange error in the logs like;

Basically the ANSWER is the key,  Can not lock modem device.  Why doesn't
Hylafax log in place of FaxGetty, or is this a correct response?

How do I get FaxGetty to lock the device properly?
