"hooking up dumb terminals for dummies"

If its a dumb terminal I wouldnt be suprised at all if it did nothing
without being attached to a properly configured serial port with a
properly configured getty running on it.  You might check brightness and
contrast knobs if any to see if you get a blinking cursor maybe..
Also I'm not sure about the serial cable needed but it may be a null modem
cable, which is a normal serial cable with a couple pins reversed.  Your
best bet would be to get a gender changer for the supplied cable.  You
could also try the serial cable you have, it probably wont hurt anything
to try.  I'm sure someone could also let you borrow the correct
cable/changers/whatever needed to see if the thing works at all and/or a
configured computer to hook it up to to test (I could.)
