<flogs the dead horse> I pay money to help make myself more productive or
I spend money on a hobby. Computers are a hobby for me and linux is just a
toy. Linux is okay at some things and it is productive, but I spend more
time fighting with it than I do actually learning about computers and the
theoretical stuff that is just cool.
Surprise, surprise, I am not finding Linux has near the attraction as Mac
OS X. I can run all of the software I use on Linux and even compile the
kernel plus all of the software I use with the MacOS. And as a bonus I
dont have to listen to all the socialist/communist political spew.
The only attraction really left is the education which honestly being on
the MacOS dev-lists is actually more enlightening because most of the
people are professionals and are working on the stuff you pay for. I find
myself finding better sources of information and better conversations.
It is really neat to compare and contrast the Classic MacOS with Linux,
definately an education and well worth it because so many things are
handled differently. One isnt necessarily better then the other, just
differently.
The same goes for hardware. You pay for quality and reliability of your
whole system.
I still wish I had a Cray, although the Octane is next..
