Where do I begin? Basic Linux

I've made a largely self-taught transition from windows to Linux and Solaris
over the last <2 years. Here are the resources I've found most useful.

For setting up a Linux box and making the parts work
"Running Linux" - Welsh and Kaufman

For coverage of commands and basic tools
"A Practical Guide to Linux" - Sobell

For an accessible intro to sysadmin issues
   "Linux Administration: A Beginner's Guide" - Shah

For readable coverage of a broad range of *nix issues
"Unix System Administration Handbook" - Nemeth et. al.

The manuals that come with the SuSE distribution (Professional not Personal
version) are fanatastic - reason enough IMO to pick SuSE when you make the
inevitable change from Corel.

Once you get focused on a specific issue, the HOWTOs available at
http://www.linuxdoc.org/ and other places are unbeatable.

Welcome to the world of logical operating systems. It may be a bit of a
challenge at first, but it's a very healthy change.
