ethernet card

Well I got linux to boot last night... <Voice style='HOMER'>WOO
HOO!!!!</Voice>

Now I'm having trouble getting the ethernet card to work... here is what I
know...

1.) It's a kensington brand card
2.) I think it uses the tulip drivers
3.) It's on IRQ 5
4.) I've turned all PnP off in BIOS
5.) looked in /etc/modules.conf to confirm the eth0 setting

When the machine tries to boot it gets to the point where it tries to load
the eth0 interface. It hangs there for about 2 minutes and FAILS. After
booting into KDE, I open the gui app that controls the network interfaces...
the eth0 is set to inactive and every time I set it to active, it sits
there.

I've added the gateway, network mask, and dns addresses for the AT&T cable
modem but should get the IP from the server once I connect (DHCP).

I don't think this is an issue of IP addresses, but more of hardware
problems... I could be wrong though...

any ideas?
