CD ROM doesn't read

Hi,

I have an old Gateway P-133 with a Wearnes CDD820 CROM and the cd's I 
bought from CompUSA don't work.  Every distro I try to install tells me it 
can find the CDROM drive using those disks, if I grab a commercial CD, it 
works okay, but I' have to keep getting those from the library.

Any thoughts on better CD's or anyone else had this problem with the 
CompUSA cheapos?  Any ideas on what to do?
