Featuring Speaker:
Sheila A. Harnett, Ph.D.
Distinguished Engineer, IBM Linux Technology Center

Sheila Harnett is a Distinguished Engineer in IBM's Linux
organization. Her current role is System Architect for the IBM Linux
Technology Center (LTC) which she co-founded nearly 3 years ago to work
on open source contributions to Linux. Sheila has been involved with the
definition and execution of IBM's software strategy for Linux since its
beginning, in 1998. As part of this strategy, IBM has ported its server
middleware portfolio to Linux, offers support and services for Linux,
has enabled Linux across IBM's eServer family, and is open-sourcing
specific technologies to accelerate Linux's growth in the Enterprise
space. IBM's Linux Technology Center was formed to serve as a technical
center of competency for Linux within IBM, and to actively contribute to
Linux on behalf of IBM by working as a part of the Linux open source
community. The LTC engages daily in over 50 open source development
projects with the open source community to accelerate the development of
and adoption of Enterprise capabilities in the Linux platform. Since
joining IBM in 1992, Sheila has devoted her time to operating systems
design and development, internet technologies and object-based
technologies. Sheila is currently based at IBM's development lab in
Austin, Texas.
