I must say that I agree with Paul, the realports are excellent cards. I have the 10/100 combo 56K/Cellular modem model. As long as I have it startup directly from card services it knows to take com2 and leave com1 open. They are a little more pricey (at least the combos) than your standard generic card, but I feel that it's worth the extra couple dollars. Having broken 2 dongled cards myself I spent more over the time of replacements that I would have with it initally.

enough of my rambling...

I like the Xircom RealPort NICs, personally. Mostly because there's no
dongle to lose or break, and they are well supported under Linux. I
have had problems with the RealPort combo cards (NIC + fax/modem)
stealing control of /dev/ttyS0 (COM1) and preventing the regular serial
port from working.

I'm looking for an inexpensive PCMCIA NIC for my old GNU/Linux laptop.
My
primary concerns are that it be inexpensive, and easily used on Linux.
What
do you folks recommend?

Thanks.
