[GLLUG] Kernel Compile

If I want to download the latest sources for a kernel and do a kernel
compile, how much space do I actually need? I had over 1 gb free, and was
getting Error 1 on an object file.

An additional question is: Can I compile the latest kernel for a RH 7.1 SMP
system on a Uniprocessor System running RH 7.3, I will need an additonal
driver for the IDE raid controller, would this be possible or is it better
to just compile on the SMP system.
