[GLLUG] RH 9 and XMMS MP3 playback

Downloaded and installed RH 9 on my compaq laptop.  Works well, except
MP3 playback.  CD's will play in XMMS and others.  However, MP3 will not
play.  I installed the MP3 1/2/3 fix recommended on the rh newsgroup.  I
have a via82xx on board audio and went to alsa-project.org and
recompiled the alsa drivers into the kernel and still no luck.

Any thoughts on how to get MP3 playback on my laptop?
