I ran the command and got the message about /etc/rc.d/init.d/pure-ftpd not
existing.

I have to start pure-ftpd by running /usr/local/sbin/pure-ftpd &

Also, I did not get an rpm package. I had to compile this my self.

Reboot the computer.

Okay, just kidding.

Does it have an init script?

[sharrison at mybox sharrison]$ rpm -ql pure-ftpd | grep init
/etc/rc.d/init.d/pure-ftpd

Yes!

What is the usage?

[sharrison at mybox sharrison]$ /etc/rc.d/init.d/pure-ftpd
Usage: {start|stop|restart|condrestart|status}

So... (as root)
/etc/rc.d/init.d/pure-ftpd restart

Regards,
Scott
