Tim,

I use xvncviewer tunnelled through ssh, and it works quite nicely.  The 
trouble with java VNC, as I remember, is that is uses like 6 to 10 ports 
which makes forwarding quite a hassle.  If you tunnel X through ssh, you 
only need one port, and it's encrypted.

If you're interested in details, I'll give a detailed explaination of 
configuration items on each host.
