NIS = Network Information System, formerly YP = Yellow Pages

You'll hear it called YP or NIS quite often. The commands are prefixed
with yp still (ypcat, ypbind, etc.), however, Yellow Pages is
copyrighted and can no longer be legally used to describe this
directory/information service.
