Sorry guys, I thought I included this, so I'm sending
it now before I get in trouble.
eth0      Link encap:Ethernet  HWaddr
00:0A:E6:D5:6E:3A
          inet addr:68.255.63.174  Bcast:68.255.63.255
 Mask:255.255.255.0
          inet6 addr: fe80::20a:e6ff:fed5:6e3a/64

          Interrupt:23 Base address:0xe400

lo        Link encap:Local Loopback
          inet addr:127.0.0.1  Mask:255.0.0.0
          inet6 addr: ::1/128 Scope:Host
          UP LOOPBACK RUNNING  MTU:16436  Metric:1
          RX packets:4034 errors:0 dropped:0

          TX packets:4034 errors:0 dropped:0
overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0 txqueuelen:0
          RX bytes:300138 (293.1 Kb)  TX bytes:300138
(293.1 Kb)
 this is what I had from ifconfig, which wasn't
installed initially.  that was fun.

also, i don't konw if this will help but i am
including the contents of /etc/resolv.conf

search domain_not_set.invalid
nameserver 192.168.0.1
nameserver 192.168.0.1

One more thing 192.168.0.1 is the address to access
the dsl modem and the connection (username, password,
public ip address for the Internet and dns addresses
are handled there)

I checked to see if the problem was firewall related,
but that is not the problem.

sorry for leaving this out, i can't belive i was this careless
