Greetings fellow LUG members. If you didn't attend the meeting, here's
all the cool stuff that you missed.

Vital Statistics
----------------
Approximately 9 people attended the meeting which started at 6:00PM and
ended at approximately 8:45PM.

Presentation
------------
The m0n0wall and IPCop Firewalls. (With bonus material on how to
troubleshoot failing hardware on an old Dell machine.)

Jeff, the GLLUG President gave a good thorough overview of the
FreeBSD-based m0n0wall and Linux-based IPCop. Most of the time was
devoted to m0n0wall. The amount of control that m0n0wall gives you over
your network and all of the features that it provides are simply
staggering for such a small (5MB) distribution. Most of the audience had
left by the time IPCop was presented. While IPCop is leaner on features,
it too has its strengths such as web caching and filtering.

General Banter
--------------
Before the meeting, there was discussion about the various BSDs and how
they were related to Linux. There was also an entertaining story about
kittens and how much they live to activate old water pumps on the same
electrical circuit as the home computers. Otherwise, there was not a lot
of General Banter this evening, as the conversation did not stray far
from the topic of firewalls. As the meeting was wrapping up, however,
the question was posed about how to go about capturing data from a
serial port, parsing it, and dumping it into a database. Basically, the
solution was to capture the data from the serial port, parse it, and
then dump it into a database.

There was pizza with spice packets.

Next Week's Meeting
-------------------
February 10, 2005 6:00PM @ Atmosphere Annealing, Inc.

Installfest and Beginner's Night

Our most popular type of meeting is dedicated to those users who want to
try out Linux or BSD, but haven't quite gotten the hang of installation
or configuration, or simply haven't had the time. We also invite you
stop by for a chat if your system is up and running and you've got some
questions on how to use it. Experienced users are welcome and encouraged
to come out and lend a knowledgeable hand.
