Greetings fellow LUG members. If you didn't attend the meeting, here's
all the cool stuff that you missed. Sorry these are a little later than
usual.
Vital Statistics
----------------
The meeting started at 6:00PM and ended at approximately 8:00. Forgot to
count how many people showed up, but it was a fairly typical showing,
perhaps a bit above our recent average.
Presentation
------------
The R Statistical Environment by Scott Harrison
Scott gave an informative overview of R's capabilities and a
demonstration of its use. R's syntax is simple and it's very easy to
pick right up. There's a lot of information on R out there, but Scott
notes that your best bet for answers is usually the mailing list.

Open source software for statistical computing:

Comparison of SAS & R/Splus:

Thanks again for the excellent presentation, Scott!
General Banter
--------------
Not a whole lot of General Banter this time, almost all discussion was
focused around the presentation.
There was pizza.
Next Week's Meeting
-------------------
February 24, 2005 6:00PM @ Atmosphere Annealing, Inc.
LPI Certification Training
Want to learn about Linux but aren't sure where to start? Or would you
like to bone up on your Linux mastery so you can ace the Linux
Professional Institute certification exam? The GLLUG LPI certification
training sessions may be the answer. While we don't provide the exam
itself, we do present material straight out of IBM's DeveloperWorks? LPI
study guides so you will have all of the knowledge you'll need to run
your own Linux machines in confidence and maybe even pass the LPI exam
if you choose to take it. We'll have experienced LUG members there to
teach the material and answer your questions in way too much detail and
to top it off, these sessions are FREE.
Upcoming Events
---------------
- 03 Mar Presentation: Database Independent Development in C
- 10 Mar Installfest and Beginner's Night
- 17 Mar Presentation: The Novell Linux Desktop and Open Enterprise
Server by Tim Grocki and Scott Guscar
- 24 Mar LPI Certification Training
- 31 Mar Bits, Bites, and Beer (Location undetermined)
