Thanks a lot for all the infomartion and tips. I will investigate everything.
But, even though, there could be, for most part, a small performance decrease
with adsl (if you don't take into account the fact that cable uses a bridge
to share the connection among different subscribers). I like the idea of
having a stable ip address (hopefully I will have one with adsl if I don't
reset the modem, but I still have to see how it is going work for me), so I
can access my network from the public network, and since I have a router that
is always on maybe I could preserve my ip for some time. And my experience
with cable is that it is not as fast I would expect, but for most part the
internet at large is not so fast. Bottomline I believe that adsl is a better
value.
I will check out the other providers (earthlink, acd, tds) and the issue of
distance (I live close to downtown East Lansing). In terms of phone services
I am using skype for most part (it is pretty cool, since they have clients
for win32 and linux, but sometimes there is some minor degradation of the
audio communication). I greatly appreciated the feedback.
