    Ummm....no.  The comment was meant to suggest that any magnetic 
force strong enough to cause those sorts of problems would likely have 
far more obvious effects than what you've seen. (like silverware stuck 
in the walls and ceiling and the fridge strangely growing legs and 
crossing the room on it's own)

    In general, magnetic fields are not a problem for the storage of 
today.  Floppy disks were unhappy when placed near a speaker magnet, but 
I haven't used one for actually storing data for some time.  On the 
other hand, my laptop is perfectly happy traveling to work in my 
magnetically mounted tank bag.  Extraordinary magnetic fields are really 
not that common...lightning strike being the one I saw most as a bench tech.

In short: It is highly unlikely that any single outside force 
contributed to your recent experiences.  Apply any common adage and 
you'll get as close to an explanation as through hours of 
investigation.  "When it rains, it pours" comes immediately to mind.

I hope you haven't lost any critical data.
