Program what? ;-)
First, just have her pick something that interests her. Does she want
to build a website? Create a game? Write a tool that tracks and
summarizes global temperature statistics?
That's half the battle. If you get bored during your "learning"
phase, then you'll never go back to it willingly. Pick a language
like c, and google for "c tutorial".
http://www.programmingtutorials.com/c.aspx has some good stuff
(notice, that site is written in ASP.NET, though - wonder if it runs
in Mono ;-)
There's your starting point. Just code for a while. Extend the
tutorial to say "Hello Fat Ugly World" instead of just "Hello World".
Snicker and move on to more complex things. Design and strategy
should come with experience and knowledge. Just don't start selling
websites to clients until you have at least 5 years experience with
keeping a dynamic site running. Once you start toying with big
codebases, you realize how much design, processes, and documentation
matter. Until then, it's just a pie in the sky idea.
Best of luck!
