You might try loading "Dominions 3" from http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ (demo available) its the best fantasy turn based game ever and has native a linux version. Not too showy tho...

I've never actually tried running it on Linux, but the open AlephOne
Marathon engine runs really well even on the low-end Macs I've tried it on.
