[GLLUG] Where's the File?

Where is the file that instructs my system to address the CDROM as if it were not DMA compliant ('cause it isn't)?  This system had the file modified at a GLLUG meeting some time ago.  I'm trying to find the file and save the information in it for later use.  After studying various references on the web my best guess is somewhere in /etc but that's as specific as saying wild elephants live in Africa. The system is running Mandrake 10.0 and I'd like to do a clean install of Kubuntu Breezy.
