I would recommend trying two more tests first:

1. Remove the network card and all but video cards and the drives needed
to boot.  See if the problem persists.

2. Remove the video card and all but the network card and drives needed
to boot.  Make sure that the machine is network accessible from ssh
first, then use it from a network connection from another machine for a
while.


Given the updated information, I would suspect either a crappy
motherboard, or a problem with the video card/drivers.  One more bit of
information, could you post the results of "lspci -v" as root?
