Well, I got a happy ending last night. Finally! :-)
During last wekk's meeting, Jordan spent a good chunk of the 2 hours of
his time trouble shooting the lappy. Eduardo scoured the net to find
good documentations for it.
Thanks to Jordan and Eduardo (and Jeff and Charles too!):
- my network (PCMCIA) card is working, so it's a relief
- newer distribution might not work nicely. Thanks, Andy, for
confirming it.
DSL was able to detect the network card, but failed in the graphic card.
Xubuntu failed detecting the network card. Ubuntu 4 (Warty Warthog)
should work, according to the post in their forum, but failed in my
case.
So I visited Disrowatch and checked what's available there. After
testing out several live distros (I felt sorry for my lappy's CD ROM!),
Elive (http://elivecd.org) finally works for my lappy. It failed
detecting my sound card, but I don't really care right now.
I have their previous version installed (0.4.2), because the most recent
one also failed to detect my network card. But I hope I can do the
update later, particularly for firefox and flash. They use
Enlightment, which is pretty sweet, IMHO.
I'll stop by tonight.
thanks,
ranti.
