What type of laptop?  I used to work for a company that refurbished thousands of laptops a day and built them up from scrap.  ALL KEYS come off - all keyboards come off for that matter.  You can get the keyboard off of the laptop and the key off of the keyboard at that point.  Thinkpads tend to be the easiest.  A lot of Toshibas are a pain in the ass as are some Dells and <GAG> Gateways
