If you want to learn the absolute most you can, try either Slackware
or Linux from Scratch. Gentoo offers a lot of power, but it's not
quite as "bare metal" as these two. Check the IBM DeveloperWorks site.
They have (or at least had) a bunch of LPI study material. I
understand that there are quite a few books available for Linux
certification these days, but couldn't recommend any in particular.
