Dansguardian isn't completely out of the way; there is a build for
 openwrt that will do it. (Openwrt is another distribution for the
 linksys routers which is a bit more powerful than ddwrt. Lacking a web
 interface, it saves a lot of memory by not having an http server).

 You might be interested in Packet Protector (packetprotector.org),
 which is a openwrt-based firmware with security features in mind, with
 dansguardian built in.

 OpenDNS does a decent job. Usually there are workarounds for
 filtering, anyway (ie, a proxy server).
