There are two BSD based desktop distributions:

http://www.pcbsd.org/ is being actively developed.

FreeBSD 8.2 as the base system and KDE 4.5.5 for the Desktop.
Yet another new packaging system. Design philosophy: Share libraries, who needs em?

http://www.desktopbsd.net/

FreeBSD 7.2-RELEASE-p3 as base system and KDE 3.5.10 for the desktop.
Packages from the FreeBSD ports collection.

Their last release was in 2009. Development was supposedly taken up by a new small team, but there haven't been any new releases from them.

BSD as a desktop has a major limitation for many users—there's no native flash support.

My distro?
Desktop: OS X, the best of all worlds, UNIX® with Apple's UI—commercially supported ZFS coming real soon now™.
Server: EON/Solaris, industrial strength UNIX® with ZFS.

It is the least unsatisfactory personal computer I know of, but that's an easy win, considering the competition. — Jay Freeman
