Here's a problem discovered with the latest Firefox, 10.0.something.
Have any of you been having problems with HTML5 video on multi-user PCs?

===================================================
I have found the problem, prompted by my reference to single user windows
systems. If you haven't been put off using firefox before, then this might
finally nail it. What appallingly bad design.

There is a /tmp/mozilla-media-cache directory which firefox uses for storing
its online streaming. It is owned by the first user to start up firefox (or
presumably some other mozilla product). firefox only allows that first user
to access the directory. It appears that sometimes this gets reset (it
appears to be maybe every week or so) so that another user can get to it, to
the exclusion of the earlier user for the remainder of the week/month or
whatever it is.

I am completely amazed at the crass, mind boggling, awefulness of this.

Chris

It's probably something as simple as reading the wrong variable. Just on a
hunch, try setting your temp environment variables to $HOME/tmp immediately
before you run the browser. Your reset period may be when the system gets
restarted. For example, my /tmp is a ramdisk.

I should have made things clearer. I'm not experiencing this problem,
someone in a Slackware newsgroup is. I'm not using this version of Firefox,
my PCs are used only by me, and I don't have any environment variables that
specify any temp directories. It does sounds like a good suggestion for
Chris Vine, even though he, too, is running Slackware.

Which announcement seems to have flooded their website to the point of
nearly shutting it down.

Site seems fine for me... for now... I guess they have went into a "static
mode" to help prevent it from crashing... Hope I can nab one before it
folds in on itself once they go on-sale.
