Several persons in my office are using https://www.toggl.com/ . it is hosted by their web server and they want to upsell you from the free accounts. But it's simple and works on any platform, even mobile apps and then dump several formats. It appears designed for uses like yours. It may start you off in the right direction as a quick start.
