Dear Yen-Hwei
I hope my email finds you well.
I am writing from the University of Essex to let you know that our Department of Languages and Linguistics are offering a free online course in January which may be of interest to your students at Michigan State University.
The Exploring Linguistics course covers a range of subjects such as sociolinguistics, theoretical linguistics, psycholinguistics as well as teaching English as a foreign language. The course aims to give students an introduction to the study of linguistics at a postgraduate level, as well as introduce them to current important topics in these research areas.
These sessions are completely free to join and students who register will receive a link which will enable them to join the sessions which will be delivered online by Zoom. All students who attend a minimum of four of the five sessions will, upon request, receive a certificate of attendance after the course concludes.
Course: 11-15 January 2020 12-2pm GMT

I would be grateful if you could forward this information to any students you think may be interested in this opportunity.
We are also excited to offer a second course of Translation, Interpreting & Subtitling between 17 and 21 May 2021, which will include sessions on audiovisual translation, subtitling, technologies of translation, interpreting alongside more general sessions on translation and linguistic knowledge for the translator. This, too, will be free to join and a certificate of attendance available afterwards.
Thanks for taking the time to read this message and best wishes from Essex!
Prof Monika Schmid
Head of Department Languages and Linguistics
