Sociolinguists, FYI two new items. First, a new Corpus Linguistics lab is emerging, and the lab will host an inaugural workshop next week. I encourage anyone planning to do sociolinguistic corpus work to consider attending.

Some of you may know that Sandra Deshors and I are starting a new corpus linguistics lab.  We have a web site (https://corpus.cal.msu.edu/) with not much content yet, but we do have two workshops scheduled for this semester.  We will also be announcing a kick-off talk later for the beginning of next semester.

For now, I want to bring to your attention our first workshop on Friday, October 16, from 1-4pm.

I will be introducing the BYU suite of corpora and its interface.  There is, unfortunately, some advanced planning needing.  I would like people to register by next Wednesday so I can better plan for the online session.  Also, you need a subscription to the corpora or you will get locked out during the workshop.  Normally, it is $30 for the year, but you will see on link to the talk how to sign up for a group subscription ahead of time.  If 11-30 people sign up, the cost will be reduced.  Meanwhile, feel free to contact me if you have any questions.  Students from any program are invited, and feel free to forward this message.
