Friends of Sociolinguistics,

We're delighted to welcome back Dr. Wil Rankinen (Grand Valley State University) to the MSU Sociolinguistics Lab on Monday! One of Wil's current research projects is tracking the reversal of the Northern Cities Vowel Shift in Michigan. He'll talk to us about his results so far:

ID: 984 1836 0065
Password: sociolab

This will be an informal meeting, so feel free to come and ask lots of questions. Wil completed his BA in Linguistics at MSU in 2008. He wrote his senior thesis on Upper Peninsula English under the supervision of Dennis Preston. Wil returned to MSU as a lecturer in 2013-2014, and we still consider him to be a Spartan sociolinguist 🙂

You can read more about Wil's research here: https://www.gvsu.edu/csd/sociolinguistics-sociophonetics-and-speech-science-research-lab-41.htm
