Friends of Sociolinguistics and Socio Lab,

Don't miss this evening's CALMS event, organized by the Linguistics graduate students and featuring alumni of our PhD program. The main focus is data science careers in higher education, but we will also have a panelist who is a language engineer at Amazon.

Best,
Suzanne

Subject: [lin-grad] REMINDER: Careers, Alumni, and Linguistics at Michigan State (CALMS) Panel!

Good morning all!

This is a reminder that later today, the LSO will be hosting the CALMS Panel at 6:00-7:30pm EST containing four of our recent linguistics alumni. Please see the attached email for more information about the panelists and Zoom details.
This panel is an opportunity for students to learn more about non-academic careers in the field, what the transition from academia to industry is like, as well as get more communication with our alumni. So, to any attending student, consider what you would like to ask!

We hope to see you there!
Shannon Cousins

Subject: SAVE THE DATE: Careers, Alumni, and Linguistics at Michigan State (CALMS) Panel!

Hello all!

The LSO Alumni committee is happy to welcome you to the Linguistics program's Careers, Alumni, and Linguistics at Michigan State (CALMS) Panel hosted on Thursday 3/11 from 6:00-7:30pm EST!
This is an extension of our 2019 CALMS event and hopes to achieve the same two main goals: connections with alumni and professional development. This panel is about the transition from academic/student life into non-academic careers. Hosted by the Linguistics program, this panel is primarily for Linguistics graduate students, but is relevant to students and alumni in any related field.
Our featured panelists include four of our recent alumni, listed below along with their current positions:

The panel will begin with an introduction from all our panelists telling us briefly about themselves - what their current position is, any daily tasks and/or long-term projects involved with that position, and how they currently use their degree professionally. After this, the floor will be opened up to questions from students!

We hope to see you there!
