AMR?

I'm going to mail the linmodems list with this also, but thought someone 
here hight know.  I was wondering if Linux is capable of using AMR modems.  
They're a sort of 'standardized' software modem.  I am aware of the 
relatively limited Linux drivers for the PCTel and Lucent chipset 
soft-modems, and was wondering if AMR was supported [better] through 
open-source drivers, or if it was supported at all.
