Net security programs

I seem to recall a while back seeing a curses-based net 
monitoring program, but I can't find it (since I don't 
remember the name of it).  It would just sit there and 
dump stats about the various traffic on a device in 
an easy to read fashion.  Can anyone recommend such 
a program?  I'm learning more about network security, 
and I want to see if anyone is poking around my ppp0 
interface when I'm online.  A freshmeat search turns 
up gobs of various monitoring programs, and I'd rather 
not spend the time trying them all.
