You should be able to just plug it in and go. @home blocks some windows
networking ports, but for the most part I think everything works OK. I'm
using METS, which is a very similar service that TCI started here locally
in East Lansing before @home was created, but it costs a bit more (though
I do get a direct route to MSU which is what I mostly need anyways).

My cable modem is a LanCity. It takes power, cable in, 10baseT ethernet
out. I have it plugged into a hub, and my PC(s) into the hub, and it all
works great with DHCP (and you get the same address every time,
usually...). Nothing special needed.
