More DSL Service Options Available

i want to get it here on my end in east lansing and dont see whats taking so 
dang long. i kept seeing stuff on tv about some bill that was going to stop 
it but that just sounds silly. i spent 45 minutes on hold with ameritech to 
just find out that all they can tell me is "dsl is supposed to be everywhere 
ameritech is by the year 2002" i mean come on! does anyone have any more 
information than i could scrounge up? oh yeah and from what ive found out 
dsl only goes 5000 yards or something before it needs a booster thingy. and 
if theres taps and loops in the line that degrades the quality too. i may be 
wrong. just throwing in my two cents.
